Santa's verdict is in....

And then we got to see SANTA!! He said Kayson has been very good and he'll be visiting our house here in two weeks :) It is so fun to have a little one this time of year!
AND NOW..... Back to our every day lives and to finish updating from last post. Kayson is such a joy in our lives, and we are getting used to our new lives as parents. I have been soooo spoiled because Coby has been home a lot, so we get to tag-team a lot of the responsibilities. Coby was so good, especially when I couldn't do a whole lot recovering from the c-section. It was so hard for me to see everyone else be able to bend, squat, pick things up, and care for my baby better than I could. I am definitely healing up though and able to do practically everything as before. I'm still not supposed to lift more than Kayson, but that should end by my 6 week appointment.

And here's our little one.... These pictures are from the first week we were home.
Mommy and Kayson
I just love my bright eyed boy!
Since he was born, Kayson has actually done really well focusing both eyes..... sometimes he goes a little cross-eyed though! :)
I love when he grabs onto my fingers
My two boys.... sleeping the day away
And here's my little man's BIG hands! He has huge hands! We're hoping they come in handy for football, basketball, and playing the piano :)

Kayson is the cuddliest little boy.... and I absolutely love it! I hope he never grows out of his cuddly phase.

And here's some more pics of my handsome boy!
Our first Thanksgiving!

And here's some more of our main man!

Coby is the best daddy ever and loves spending time with his little bud. Coby insisted that I take a picture of the two of them and their (unplanned) matching outfits. Gray shirts, blue pants, and white socks :)
We love going for walks in the stroller and Kayson does so good in his carseat.
Since the umbilical cord has fallen off, we no longer do sponge baths and have moved into his little tub.... which he absolutely loves! The first time he wasn't too sure and clinched onto Coby's hands for dear life, but didn't fuss. He now loves tub time and can't get enough of it.

Our little hood-rat :)

And then as mentioned in our last post.... we had tons of visitors when Kayson was first born, so here are more of those pictures.

Grandpa Scott Madsen and Kayson

We are loving every minute with our little man and are so lucky to have him. We feel so blessed to have him in our lives and couldn't ask for anything more. He is sleeping so good through the night and it starting to focus more on faces and smiling more. He completely melts my heart every time he smiles.

HE'S HERE!!!!!

Kayson Coby Knudsen joined our family November 10, 2010!!!
He was born at 5:55pm
Weighed 8lbs 14 oz
21 1/2 inches long

And here's our story.......

So my official due date was November 8th and Coby and I were as anxious as ever to meet our little boy. Each day I went over, we got more and more antsy to meet him. Sunday, November 7th was my nephew Christian's baby blessing, and although we were sure I'd be in labor or Kayson would already be here, he wasn't.... so we made it to Christian's blessing. That whole day I felt different, my legs and hands were swollen (which they hadn't really been the whole pregnancy), and I started having contractions that night. We thought for sure we'd be going to the hospital that night, but nothing really progressed. I stayed home from work Monday the 8th, just because I didn't want to hear everybody say "oh, you're still here.... no baby?" well obviously! And I still thought I'd be going into the hospital sometime that day to have our baby.... wrong again! Monday night I had contractions again, but Tuesday morning came and I decided I was going to work. I couldn't sit home anymore and just wonder when he was coming. So Tuesday I worked all day, felt pretty good, and decided we'd go for a really long walk that night. Coby and I went over to the church and walked the halls for over an hour. We got home from walking about 10:00 and then the contractions started coming strong at 10:30pm. We were in bed, but I couldn't sleep due to each contraction waking me up and being so painful. I kept trying to put it off, thinking, once again I was just getting my hopes up that he was coming, but then the contractions got really painful... and in my BACK!!!! (worst thing ever) With each contraction, I just wanted to cry.... Coby would literally massage my back so hard with each contraction and rub ice on it, just to try and counteract the pain.

Now I always knew that I didn't want to go in to the hospital too early and have them either send me home or tell me I was only dilated to a 1 and wait all day, so I faced the contractions all night. After being awake all night and struggling through consistent, but irregular contractions, we finally decided to head to the hospital. I've never seen Coby move so fast.... He wanted to go in several hours earlier, but me being stubborn wanted to wait. As soon as I said "ok, go grab our bags" he shot out of the room and was ready to go. (This was at 5:30 am)

We got to the hospital and I was indeed in active labor. I was dilated to a 5 and 90% effaced. And then a little piece of heaven came.... THE EPIDURAL!! :) I went from this constant constant intense pain, to feeling nothing and feeling completely relaxed. It was the greatest thing ever. Our doctor stopped by and said everything was looking great and that our little boy would most likely be joining us by 12:30 that afternoon.

Here are Coby and I, so excited to know that Kayson is coming... and so excited that the epidural was working :)

Now it was just the waiting game. Here is Coby just relaxing watching TV and I was sleeping through the contractions!

Everything was progressing just great. 12:30 rolled around and I was only dilated to a 9 and 90% effaced, so they decided to just wait and let the baby 'rest and descend'. Each hour they checked me and I stayed dilated at a 9. Finally at 3:00 we decided to start pushing. We pushed a couple of times with different contractions, but there was one portion of my cervix that wasn't dilating. So we waited another hour and at 4:00pm tried pushing again. Dilated at a 9 1/2, we tried pushing past the anterior lip that wouldn't dilate, but once again, nothing happened, so we'd wait a little longer. Finally at 5:00pm they decided we were going to push hard and get him here. Things were going fine, but after a couple of pushes, his little heart rate plummeted!!! A low heart rate for a baby is 120 and he dropped down to the 50's. The nurses and Dr tilted my bed upside down with my feet elevated, put oxygen on me, and turned me on my side trying to get as much oxygen to the baby as possible. His heart rate came back up after about 30 seconds, but it seemed like eternity to me! Meanwhile, I hear my Dr saying I want Dr. Judy here STAT to assist, get Dr. Nay (the anesthetist) back here immediately, and let's get her ready. I knew exactly what they were talking about...... we were going to be doing a c-section. After his heart rate came back up, my Dr explained that he didn't think our baby's heart could handle the pushing anymore and that we would need to do a c-section. A thousand emotions were running through my head at this point..... I was so worried about my baby and wanted everything to be ok and then the one thing I never wanted was a c-section. But the got me all ready, took Coby off to go get changed, and wheeled me back to the OR.

This was on the OR table getting ready for the C-section. I was so scared and worried about our baby.

Since I deal with surgery and we do c-sections all the time, I knew everything they were doing and I think that made it worse. Everything went great though and they got Kayson here safely. He had meconium in the amniotic fluid (meaning he pooped while inside of me), so they knew before he was born that they would have to suction his mouth, nose, and lungs out really good the second he was born, to prevent any complications.

He came out screaming, but after they cleaned him off and suctioned him out, they handed him to Coby, and he was completely calm and wide eyed. This will forever be my first memory of him.... Coby holding him, with his eyes wide open looking around and smacking his lips :)

AND HERE HE IS!!!

Weighing in at a whopping 8lbs 14 oz!!!
And here is our handsome little boy!

I couldn't hold him right away, so Coby followed Kayson and stayed with him, while I was sewed up :) This was shortly after being brought back to our room. (Now keep in mind... the reason I look and felt like I had been hit by a truck, was because I went through both labors and had quite the emotional day)

Wide eyed and excited to see the world!

This was the first time I got to hold my baby.... they couldn't finish up surgery fast enough!

Coby is the best little daddy ever!!! Since I was slightly layed up for awhile, Coby did everything! And he is probably one of the proudest dad's ever. He loves his little boy!

Finally.... we get to go home. We had to stay in the hospital 3 days and we were so ready to come home.

This is the going home outfit we bought for Kayson and so glad that it fit. I never thought we'd have such a big baby, and was nervous about him fitting in newborn clothes. But to our surprise... it fit perfect.

Daddy and Kayson

Me and my handsome man!

YEAH.... We're going home!

We have loved being home and adjusting to our new life style. Kayson has been such a good baby and we love every minute with him. He loves his little swing.

He has been so good and I feel like we truly are spoiled with such a good baby. He loves his sponge baths and has done so good with every one.

And here is our little monster! :)

We had tons of visitors and family come to see our new little guy and we feel so blessed to have such great families!

Here is Grandma Brenda with Kayson

Kayson also got to meet his cousin Christian! I think they are going to be the best little buddies. I love how huge Christian looks.

We have so many more pictures to put up and so many more things to post from our first few weeks. I will try and post shortly......
